Potomac Health Associates Client Negotiates Successful Buyout by Humana

December 31, 2012 by Potomac Health Associates, Inc.

McLean, Virginia–Potomac Health Associates, Inc. (PHA) announced that it’s client, Ambulatory Care Solutions, LLC (ACS) headquartered in Marion, Indiana, concluded a successful buyout by Humana (NYSE: HUM). Terms were not disclosed. Created in 2004 for the sole purpose of operating Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) sponsored by the Department of Veteran Affairs, ACS has gone on to win nine CBOC contracts. Drawing upon PHA’s background in health care and federal contracting, PHA and ACS formed a strategic alliance in 2005 to jointly pursue selected CBOCs in ACS’ service area. Since that time, PHA has helped ACS capture six CBOC contracts in three states, and helped the company successfully defend three of those contracts when they came up for re-competition.

The VA currently contracts for an estimated 250 CBOCs throughout the country. This is Humana’s second strategic acquisition of a government contractor that specializes in the VA’s CBOC contracts. Earlier this year, Humana acquired Valor Healthcare, another federal contractor that specialized in CBOCs with approximately 20 contracts. ACS operations are expected to be integrated into Humana’s military and veterans business units.

In addition to the nine CBOC contracts that PHA helped ACS capture, PHA has helped other clients capture 11 CBOC contracts throughout the county. To date, PHA has helped its clients win a total of 20 CBOC contracts in the following locations:

  • Albany, GA (2)
  • Auburn, NY
  • Bloomington, IN (3)
  • Danville, VA
  • Florence, SC[/column]
  • Goshen, IN
  • Grant County, WV
  • Jackson, MI
  • Jonesboro, AR
  • Oxnard, CA
  • Ponca City, OK
  • Sonora, CA
  • South Bend, IN (2)
  • St. Clairsville, OH
  • Terre Haute, IN (2)[/column]
